He was a gynaecologist doing some study in the UK. Shortly there after they went back to Germany for their Honeymoon. One place visited was Friedrichshafen where the Hindenburg was constructed. There in order to lighten some of the Duralumin holes were punched in non-critical ,non stressed spars. A local entrepreneur purchased some boxes of these round punched out pieces, gave them a curve at the lip and anodised them different colours. These were then sold as drink coasters. My mother bought a set of 12 which are now in my possession. History under my gin and tonic !ย ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Maybe a little bit longer and accommodate more passengers and weight in general? Could the structure be made out of a rigid plastic as opposed to the aluminum? Iโ€™d like to know for something that has very low amounts of metals if possible.

The supporting timbers would’ve been trusses, but what were the floors themselves? Solid sheet metal? Metal grating with lots of little holes in them? Do you know how thick it would’ve been, whether an inch or maybe one or two centimeters? How close together were the supporting members underneath? I can’t find anything online.

The ship was named in honor of Field Marshal Paul von Hindenburg, President of Germany from 1925 until 1934.

The gas cell material was a gelatin film sandwiched between two layers of cotton.
